KNEEHILL COUNTY, Alta. – A Saskatoon man has been charged in connection to a fire on Canada Day in southern Alberta.
Alberta RCMP say that at about 7:38 p.m. on July 1, they got a 911 call about a suspicious man leaving the area near a fire by the Morrin Bridge along Highway 27.
Area farmers helped firefighters battle the blaze.
Police arrested 63-year-old Alvin Sayer and charged him with six offences under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act and one offence under the Forest and Prairie Protection Regulation. The Forest and Prairie Protection Act enables the protection of the forests and prairies of Alberta from wildfire.
Three Hills RCMP would like to thank motorists and farmers in the area who jumped in to assist with the fire control until the Three Hills Fire Department got the fire under control.
Alberta RCMP are seeking assistance from motorists or public in the area with any information of the event.
