SASKATOON – Firefighters rescued a dog after putting out a house fire in the 100 Block of 27th Street West on Saturday.

Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) Communications Center received a report of a house on fire in the 100 Block of 27th Street West. SFD dispatched three fire engines, one ladder truck, one rescue unit and the Battalion Chief.

First responding firefighters reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the area prior to their arrival.  Fire crews reported flames showing at the rear of a single-story residence and arcing power lines down in the back alley. All incoming fire crews were assigned tactical duties. Saskatoon Light and Power and SaskEnergy were notified to shut down utilities for scene safety.

Fire crews extinguished the fire at the rear and breached the front door to search the residence for anyone inside. No one was inside but a dog was found safe inside. The SFD Fire Investigator was requested to attend.

The fire was brought under control at 3:27 p.m. Fire crews ensured full extinguishment and checked for hot spots. The Fire Investigator assumed the scene and investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and origin. No persons or firefighters were injured because of this fire.
