Saskatoon Fire Dept. responds to three structure fires overnight

Two of the fires are being investigated by Saskatoon police.

SASKATOON – Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) were busy responding to three structure fires overnight and into the early morning, with two fires being considered suspicious.

Two were house fires, one in the R. M. of Corman Park that caused about $20,000 in damage, another in the 100 block of Kenderdine Road in Saskatoon, which caused $780,000 in damage, and a third fire was a garage in the 1200 block of 15 Street East and caused about $40,000 in damage.

Saskatoon police investigate house fire in Corman Park

The first call came in at about 8:07 p.m. on Aug. 29, for a house fire on Range Road 3065 in the R. M. of Corman Park. SFD dispatched two engines, a brush truck, a rescue truck, a tanker, and the battalion chief.

When firefighters arrived, they saw a fire on the exterior of the home and all occupants were standing outside. Fire crews started extinguishing the flames and searched inside the home. The fire was brought under control at about 8:24 p.m. There were no injuries and Saskatoon Police Service is investigating.

House fire on Kenderdine Road caused by smoking materials

The second call, less than an hour later at 8:59 p.m., was for a house fire on the 100 block of Kenderdine Road.

SFD dispatched five engines, a ladder truck, a rescue truck, a battalion chief, and a support vehicle. When firefighters arrived, they saw the attached garage totally engulfed in flames. Two vehicles outside the home were also on fire.

The occupants of the home and their pets had safely exited the house after a passerby had banged on the house to alert them about the fire.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and searched the inside of the house. No one was inside.

Fire crews continued to aggressively battle the fire that had extended to two neighbouring homes. The fire was brought under control at about 12:04 a.m., and caused about $780,000 in damage.

A fire investigator determined that the fire was accidental, having started in the attached garage from improper disposal of smoking material. The fire investigator also discovered that the smoke alarms were not operable inside the home where the fire originated.

No injuries occurred in this incident.

Saskatoon police investigate suspicious garage fire

About three hours after the second call, SFD got a call at 3:20 a.m. that a garage was on fire on the 1200 block of 15th Street East.

SFD dispatched three engines, a rescue truck, a ladder truck, and a battalion chief.

When firefighters arrived, they saw that the fire was at the detached garage in the alley. No one was inside the garage at the time.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, which were on the outside of the garage, and quickly brought the fire under control by 3:34 a.m.

SFD’s fire investigator determined the cause of the fire was suspicious and Saskatoon Police Service was notified. There was about $40,000 in damage. There were no injuries.
