PRINCE ALBERT – Murder suspect 31-year-old Riley Patrick Primeau – who got bail – is now accused of making death threats, having a firearm on him, and not complying with release conditions of getting an ankle monitor and staying at a home under 24-hour house arrest.
Primeau was out on bail as he awaits his judge and jury trial in Prince Albert Court of King’s bench on a charge of manslaughter. He was originally charged with second-degree murder but on June 13, following a preliminary hearing, a judge in Prince Albert Provincial Court ordered that he stand trial on the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Less than a month later, Blaine Lake RCMP arrested Primeau for having a firearm and threatening to kill a man.
Court documents show that Primeau also failed to comply with his release order and enrol in the Electronic Monitoring Program and get an ankle monitor to track him.
Primeau was supposed to be at the home on Muskeg Lake Cree Nation after being ordered to be there 24-hours a day, unless he has prior commission from his bail supervisor or the court, for work or educational purposes.
He also failed to appear in court on July 8.
Primeau has now been remanded in custody. His matter was brought before Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 19 and Crown Prosecutor Maureen Longworth opposed his release. The matter was adjourned to Aug. 2 in Saskatoon Provincial court.
Primeau is one of five people accused of killing 27-year-old Byron Bear. Prince Albert police say Bear was believed to be involved in a serious assault on Dec. 6, 2021, at a home in the 300 block of 9 Street East in Prince Albert. Police had responded to the home at about 4 a.m. for a report of gunshots. When they arrived, they found evidence of a serious assault but no victim. Bear’s family reported him missing on Dec. 7, 2021.
Two months later, on Feb. 10, 2022, Bear’s remains were found in a rural area near Hague.
