Regina road rage leads to assault and weapons charges

Suspect later found driving erratically, police say.

REGINA – A recent road rage incident left one woman injured and a man facing charges.

Police responded to a call of an assault in progress around 7 p.m. on June 30 in the 400 block of Arthur Street, that a man had punched a woman.

"Police arrived on scene and spoke to the victim - an adult female - who stated that she saw a male nearly strike a pedestrian with his vehicle," said RPS in a media release. "She yelled at the male, who then got out of his vehicle and assaulted the victim. The male then got back into his vehicle, pointed a firearm at the victim, and drove away."

The suspect vehicle was discovered about 90 minutes later, described as "driving erratically and at high speeds."

Police investigation discovered the suspect had warrants on an unrelated matter from July 1, and arrested him.

William Wayne Starr, 36, of Regina was charged with assault, operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public, use of an imitation firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, and two counts failure to comply with a probation order.

Starr made his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court this morning.
