REGINA – A 64-year-old Regina man will be spending time behind bars after being found guilty of sexual interference of a three-year-old child.
The name of the victim and the accused is protected under a publication ban, and the case appeared in Regina Provincial Court on the afternoon of Sept. 19.
Court heard the offence occurred between Dec. 31, 2022 and Jan. 1, 2023 when the man was discovered by a family member with the child. He explained in a statement that he let the child jump on his lap, after which the alleged touching occurred. The victim also described in a previous statement where she was touched.
The accused did self-report the incident and was remorseful, calling the incident a “moment where had severe lack of judgment and made the biggest mistake of his life.”
In a joint submission presented by the Crown and defence counsel, a three-year custodial term was proposed with a 20-year SOIRA order, a 10-year weapons prohibition, and a DNA order.
The submission was accepted, and the Crown stayed two other charges at completion of sentencing.
