REGINA – The long arm of the law sometimes has a super-keen canine nose on the end of it.
That's what one Regina man discovered after being arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
At around 3:45 a.m. on July 5, police noticed a suspicious person going through parked vehicles on the 2700 block of Retallack Street. When members approached, the person left the scene on foot.
"The Regina Police Service Canine Unit deployed a Police Service Dog to track the suspect from his last known location," said RPS in a media release. "The dog tracked to the location of an abandoned bag, and tracked further to the location of the suspect hiding in bushes, and bit him."
EMS provided medical attention for the bite injury, and police arrested Mathew David Lepinski, 28, for the stolen property.
The male was identified and arrested for stolen property. EMS arrived and attended to the male’s bite injury.
Released on an undertaking, Lepinski is scheduled to make his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 16.
