Preliminary hearing set for accused in violent Rosetown attack

Cory Rushkewich and Randy Rushkewich remain in custody.

SASKATOON – A preliminary hearing has been set for September for two men charged in violent attack in Rosetown that left a man clinging for his life in a Saskatoon hospital.

Cory Rushkewich, 33, and Randy Rushkewich, 29, were remanded after their scheduled appearances in Rosetown Circuit Court on April 25.

In December 2023, Cory Rushkewich was granted bail in Saskatoon court but was arrested a few weeks later and charged with breaching release conditions. Randy Rushkewich has remained in custody since his arrest in November 2023.

The two brothers are each charged with aggravated assault. Cory Rushkewich is also charged with three counts of pointing a firearm and robbery.

The charges stem from a robbery and serious assault in Rosetown just before midnight on Nov. 11, 2023. Rosetown RCMP say that there was an altercation between a group of people in the 1st Street West area. A man stole a cellphone from a woman and pointed a firearm at her and a man during the incident.

The male victim was assaulted and treated in Saskatoon hospital for serious injuries. Doctors had to put the victim into a medically induced coma, his family told Â鶹´«Ã½AV.ca previously.
