Police charge youth with manslaughter after child shot, killed

A child is dead and a youth is charged with manslaughter.

RCMP Major Crimes have charged a male youth with manslaughter with a firearm in the death of a child under 10.

PUNNICHY - Police have charged a youth with manslaughter with a firearm in the death of a child on George Gordon First Nation on Thursday. 

Punnichy RCMP say that on Feb. 2 at approximately 11:45 p.m., they received a report of an injured individual at a residence on George Gordon First Nation.

Officers immediately responded and located an injured male child. He was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a child under 10 from George Gordon First Nation. His family has been notified and police say their thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

As a result of investigation, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes have charged the male youth with manslaughter with a firearm. He can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Feb. 6.
