BEAUVAL – A 26-year-old Meadow Lake woman, Jaylena Lafleur, who is charged with attempted murder and firearms-related offences, has been granted bail after a show cause hearing Sept. 20 in Beauval Circuit Court.

Her co-accused, 26-year-old Clay Pierre Ahenakew and 26-year-old Prosper Harry Gardiner, who, according to court documents, also goes by the last name of Daignault, remain in custody. Ahenakew and Gardiner are both from Ile a La Crosse.

The three were arrested after a 20-year-old man was shot multiple times at a home in Beauval in May. He sustained serious injuries.

Police obtained video surveillance evidence and say a woman was driving the get-away vehicle, a black Chevrolet Equinox SUV, and there were two male passengers in the vehicle. Police soon found the SUV travelling on Highway 155 towards Beauval and a police pursuit was initiated but the SUV continued fled from police for about two kilometres. During the pursuit, occupants threw a large duffle bag from the window of the SUV. The bag, which contained two firearms, was recovered by police.

The SUV was stopped with a spike belt near the woods on the east side of Highway 903. The three occupants fled from the SUV towards the bush. Numerous police agencies helped Beauval RCMP, including Prince Albert RCMP General Investigation Section [GIS], Battlefords RCMP GIS and Saskatoon RCMP GIS. With help from the Saskatoon Police Service Air 1, North Battleford RCMP Police Dog Services, Beauval, Buffalo Narrows, Ile La Crosse and Dillon RCMP detachments, Lafleur, Ahenakew, and Gardiner were located in the bush and arrested.

Ahenakew and Gardiner are back in Beauval Circuit Court on Nov. 15 and Oct. 23, respectively, for show cause hearings.
