SPIRITWOOD – Update May 12: A man wanted after shots were fired at a house on Polican Lake First Nation has been located and taken into custody.
On May 10, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST), Police Dog Services and Spiritwood detachment went to Witchekan Lake First Nation to investigate the whereabouts of 33-year-old Melvin Starblanket. He was located in an RV parked in front of a residence and was taken into custody without incident.
Starblanket is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 12.
During investigation, officers also located a 40-year-old man from Witchekan Lake First Nation, who was on warrant from Spiritwood RCMP for charges including fail to appear at court. He was arrested and is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 12.
Original post April 4: RCMP are looking for 33-year-old Melvin Starblanket from Witchekan Lake First Nation following an incident where shots were fired at a house on Pelican Lake First Nation March 30.
Melvin Starblanket was also the subject of a dangerous persons alert issued by Spiritwood RCMP in September 2022.
Melvin Starblanket and Tyson Starblanket face charges in connection to the shooting on Pelican Lake First Nation last week. Tyson Starblanket, 21, from Prince Albert was arrested following a 45-minute high-speed chase.
Spirtwood RCMP say that a group of people in a vehicle shot at a house around noon on March 30. No injuries were reported to police.
Officers patrolled the area and found the suspect vehicle at a business in Spiritwood. When Tyson Starblanket saw police inside the business he fled on foot and took off in a vehicle at a high rate of speed. Police pursued the vehicle and tried pulling it over but the driver refused to stop.
The vehicle was eventually forced to a stop on Highway 55 with the use of a tire deflation device.
Tyson Starblanket is charged with carless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with a probation order, and assault with a weapon.
He appeared in Prince Albert court April 3.
Melvin Starblanket is wanted on charges of careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, two counts, fail to comply with release order condition, two counts of weapons possession contrary to a court order and failing to surrender authorization, failing to comply with a court undertaking, assault with weapon, and discharging a firearm with intent.
Melvin Starblanket is six feet and 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of the letters “KRD” on the right side of his neck, a Superman logo on his right thumb, as well as various other tattoos on his arms and back.
If you see him, do not approach him and report this sighting to police immediately.
