SASKATOON – A man was taken to hospital by ambulance after his fingers were seriously injured when an officer closed his cell door Sunday night.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) say they had arrested the man after getting a complaint about public intoxication at 22nd Street West and Avenue U Â鶹´«Ã½AV about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 22.
While entering into SPS Detention, the man resisted an officer’s commands. He was medically assessed and cleared by the paramedic in Detention before being escorted to a cell. When officers closed the cell door, the man reached his hand into the path of the closing door resulting in serious, non-life-threatening injuries to his fingers. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
SPS say a Use Of Force report was completed in accordance with their policy.
