Alberta ICE arrested the man at his Cochrane, Alta., home on Dec. 5 and charged him with distributing, accessing, possession child pornography, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order out of Saskatchewan.

On the same day that 19-year-old man had an appearance scheduled in Regina Provincial Court for possession of child pornography, he was arrested in Alberta on similar charges.

On Dec. 5, Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit arrested him at his Cochrane, Alta., home and charged him with distributing, accessing, and possession of child pornography, as well as three counts of failing to comply with a release order out of Saskatchewan. He was scheduled to appear in a Regina court that day on a charge of possession of child pornography.

In July, he was arrested by the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit. Sask. ICE had started its investigation into the man in February.

At the time of his arrest in Alberta, he was on conditions not to possess electronic devices, access the internet unsupervised, and not access any form of pornography, according to Alberta ICE Unit.

“ICE is concerned that the suspect continues to reoffend and has demonstrated little regard for his release conditions,” said Const. Erin Penner, Alberta ICE Â鶹´«Ã½AV in a media release Friday.

“Child exploitation offences remain on the rise in this province and our unit will remain diligent in targeting those that contribute to this unfortunate trend.”

Penner said that a number of computers and electronic devices were seized from his home in Cochrane. Forensic analysis and evidence recovery is underway and the investigation will remain ongoing.

Alberta ICE opened its investigation into his in October when the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Center provided information about an Alberta-based suspect repeatedly sharing child sexual abuse materials on Snapchat.

Anyone with information about either of these cases or any child exploitation situation is asked to contact their local police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The Alberta ICE Unit falls under Alberta ALERT, and investigates child exploitation. Alberta ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.

The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is comprised of investigators from the Saskatchewan RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the internet.
