MUSKODAY FIRST NATION – Police arrested a couple after officers were shot at while they were investigating a call involving a firearm on Muskoday First Nation.
On Feb. 22, at about 4:55 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP had responded to Muskoday First Nation for the firearm call. They found a black Dodge Ram truck believed to be involved, and when they tried to apprehend the suspects, shots were fired from the truck at officers.
Officers didn’t return fire and there were no physical injuries.
Police contained the area and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team and Police Dog Services were called to assist.
Jason Lafferty, 28, and Whitney McDonald, 25, were arrested at the scene.
Lafferty was charged with five counts of attempted murder with a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon with ammo without a license, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, discharging a firearm with intent, discharging a firearm while being reckless, resisting or obstructing police, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
McDonald was charged with resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Lafferty appears in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Feb. 26 and McDonald appears on March 20.
