LA RONGE – A La Ronge man who allegedly tried killing two RCMP officers remains in custody and was back in court July 4. Terrence Daigneault’s matter was adjourned to July 17 to be spoken to and he is expected to appear by CCTV from the correctional centre where he is on remand.

Daigenault, who also goes by Terrance Kenny, was arrested in Saskatoon in June 2022 following an extensive manhunt. RCMP had released his photo and issued an emergency alert and lockdown in La Ronge, Air Ronge, and Lac La Ronge after RCMP were shot at and numerous people were arrested.

The incident started at about 11:30 a.m. on June 19, 2022, when a black car sped past a police vehicle with two La Ronge RCMP officers conducting patrols on Far Reserve Road. Police activated their emergency equipment and tried getting the car to pull over. The driver, however, refused to sop and police followed the vehicle as it turned into a driveway of a home in the 100 block of Far Reserve Road.

A man fled the vehicle on foot and an officer pursued him. The second officer was outside of their police truck when a second man got out of the car and started shooting at police. A bullet struck the windshield and radiator. Both officers moved to a safe location and called for backup. They weren't injured.
