SASKATOON – Six people were arrested after Saskatoon police got an anonymous call about a person armed with a gun in a vehicle on July 19. At about 6:40 a.m., the anonymous caller told police that the person was forced into a vehicle at gunpoint.
Patrol officers quickly found the suspect vehicle and in the 800 block of 22nd Street West and did a high-risk vehicle stop. Six people were ordered out and taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a .22 calibre sawed-off rifle and ammunition.
Saskatoon Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit are continuing to investigate. Police say that one occupant may have been abducted at gunpoint and unlawfully confined in the vehicle with the intent to cause harm prior to police locating it. The victim, a 27-year-old man, wasn’t injured.
As a result, three women from Saskatoon, age 32, 23, and 17, have been charged with several firearms-related offences, including use of a firearm to commit an abduction and use of a firearm to unlawfully confine. The 23-year-old was also found to be in breach of court-imposed conditions. A 28-year-old Saskatoon man is also facing charges relating to possession of a firearm while prohibited. A 51-year-old woman was released without charges.
The suspects and victim are believed to be known to one another, say police.
