La Ronge woman charged with manslaughter in 2021 fatal hit and run

LA RONGE – La Ronge RCMP have charged 29-year-old Christine Charles with manslaughter for a fatal hit and run more than two years ago.

On Sept. 30, 2021, at about 3:30 a.m., La Ronge RCMP had responded to a report of an injured man in a parking lot on Francis Robert Street in La Ronge. The 22-year-old man from Sucker River was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

La Ronge RCMP continued to investigate with help of the Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist, Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge General Investigation Section, and Prince Albert Forensic Identification Services.

On Jan. 16, 2024, La Ronge RCMP arrested Charles at a home in the La Ronge area. In addition to the manslaughter charge, she was charged with criminal negligence, dangerous driving, impaired driving causing death, and failing to stop after an accident resulting in death.

Charles appears in La Ronge Provincial Court on Feb. 1.
