Five arrested after collision, high-speed chase in Regina

Accused face numerous weapons and driving offences, say police.

REGINA – Five people were arrested and facing charges after an early morning collision plus high speed chase.

Just before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 19, RPS officers on patrol near Angus Street and Sixth Avenue noticed a vehicle that had been involved in an assault a few days previous.

"Patrol ground units alerted the Aerial Support Unit (ASU) and almost immediately ASU was able to locate the suspect vehicle," said RPS in a media release.

The police plane followed the vehicle from the air due to the high rate of speed it was travelling through the North Central area of Regina.

"At one point, the suspect vehicle ran a red light at Albert Street and Third Avenue, colliding with a taxi cab at the intersection," RPS said. "The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene by EMS. The passenger was uninjured."

While the vehicle was heavily damaged, the driver did not stop at the scene of the collision, rather continued to the north end of the city and onto Highway 6 before finally halting at Saunder Crescent.

"ASU used on-board technology to direct ground patrol members to Kumar Lane where three of the occupants, two females and male, were located and arrested without further incident," said RPS. "Officers then located the female driver hiding alongside a house in the area."

The other two passengers - a man and a woman - were found hiding in tall grass near Aitken Crescent and were arrested.

During their investigation, police found a firearm, three knives and bear spray.

Brandon Asapace, 31, faces four weapons charges and made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court this morning. He will return on Sept. 22.

Jazzmin Dubois, 21, faces two weapons charges along with a failure to comply with release conditions, and also appeared in court this morning. Her matter was adjourned to Friday as well.

Anna Lavalee, 30, faces five weapons charges, and will appear in court this morning.

Ashlyn Lavalee, 33, was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to stop after an accident, and flight from police. Her first court appearance will be on Oct. 30.

Dante Linklater, 20, faces a single count failure to comply with conditions of an undertaking, and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 31.
