NORTH BATTLEFORD - A fire in North Battleford Saturday morning has claimed the life of one person. Another individual was able to exit the structure safely.

Officials with the fire department have confirmed the remains of a deceased individual were recovered within the structure, said City of North Battleford spokesperson Candace Toma in a media release Saturday afternoon.

North Battleford Fire Department were dispatched at 4:33 a.m. on June 22 to a structure fire at 2121 - 95th Street in North Battleford.

The victim’s identity hasn’t been released.

The fire isn't considered suspicious, but the cause and origin of the blaze are still under investigation by the North Battleford Fire Department and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, said Toma.

No neighbouring structures incurred any damage during the fire.

This is the second fatal house fire in North Battleford in a week. A fire completely destroyed Mavis Takakenew's house, at 952-105th Street in North Battleford, on June 15. Two days later, the body of 20-year-old Tanisha Pritchard was found in the debris.

Police say Pritchard's death “appears” to be non-suspicious in nature, and they couldn't find any evidence at the scene.

"The Saskatchewan Coroners Service’s initial investigation has determined the female’s death appears to be non-suspicious in nature," said Saskatchewan RCMP in a media release late Friday afternoon. "As investigation has now determined this is a non-suspicious fire and sudden death, no further updates or information can be provided."
