SASKATOON – Officers from city police, the Air Support Unit and RCMP teamed up to arrest three people near the Petrofka Bridge who had fled from police.
The police chase started at approximately 10:30 p.m., on Feb, 21, when Saskatoon police officers observed a suspicious parked vehicle parked with three people in the 1000 block of Idylwyld Drive North. Upon seeing police, the vehicle began to pull away and be driven evasively through traffic. Police soon confirmed the vehicle to be stolen and a traffic stop was attempted. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop for police and accelerated away at a high rate of speed.
Officers on the ground immediately disengaged from the police pursuit and officers in the air continued to track the suspect vehicle’s movements. The vehicle left Saskatoon on the north end so members of the Air Support Unit coordinated with the Saskatchewan RCMP for interception. Tire deflation devices were deployed on Highway 12 near the Petrofka Bridge and the suspect vehicle was immobilized.
As a result, members of the SPS and RCMP arrested two women and a man, aged 19, 27, and 39, respectively. The three people from Saskatoon are collectively facing charges relating to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle being pursued by police, obstructing a police officer, possession of stolen property in excess of $5,000, and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.
