Brothers facing child porn charges have matters adjourned

Police launched investigation in April, pair was released on conditions.

REGINA – A pair of brothers accused of sexually assaulting a young female victim for over five years will see their matters proceeding in court.

Back on April 18, Matthew and David Krohn, both 36, were arrested after an investigation that began six days earlier, with the joint efforts of the Regina Children’s Justice Centre, the Saskatchewan Integrated Child Exploitation Unit and the Regina Police Service Vice Unit.

"The investigation revealed that the victim had been sexually assaulted by two male suspects over a period of several years," said RPS in a media release after the arrest.

The alleged offences occurred between April 1, 2017 and Dec. 27, 2022, with charges before the men including sexual assault, sexual interference, the making and possession of child pornography, and communication with a person under the age of 18 for purposes of the offence.

After an April 25 court appearance, the brothers were released on a list of 13 conditions, including not to possess any device to access the internet, except for employment or to take part in educational programs (with further conditions), no contact with anyone under the age of 16 or attend public places where people under 18 are expected to be present, and no contact with named individuals.

In a provincial court appearance on July 20, David Krohn - who appeared in person - saw his matters pushed to Aug. 8.

Matthew Krohn breached a condition of his release shortly after leaving custody, specifically not to possess a device capable of storing data in a digital format or access the internet. He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on July 21, and is seeking counsel with a return date of July 26. Matthew was remanded into custody until that date.
