Arrests made in serious robbery near Avonhurst

Victim taken to hospital with serious injuries, say police.

AVONHURST – One person was seriously injured after an assault and robbery at a farm near Avonhurst.

White Butte RCMP responded to the report on Sept. 2 at around 10:40 a.m.

"Investigation determined a male and a female approached the property and broke into a garage," said RCMP in a media release. "They threatened an adult female with a firearm and assaulted her. The suspects then stole a vehicle, which they fled in."

The woman assaulted was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

In addition to the White Butte RCMP, members from the Lumsden, Fort Qu'Appelle and Â鶹´«Ã½AVey detachment plus Saskatchewan RCMP Dog Services began their search for the two suspects.

"Officers located the suspect vehicle on Highway 210 and attempted a traffic stop," RCMP said. "The suspect vehicle did not stop and continued at a high rate of speed onto Highway 10. The suspects entered a field and officers were able to disable the vehicle and arrest the male and female occupants."

Police found another stolen vehicle from Regina abandoned near the location of the robbery.

"Officers located and seized numerous items believed to be stolen from these vehicles including a firearm, an air rifle, as well as banking and ID cards," said RCMP.

Taylor Asapace, 22, and Joseph Antoine, 26, were each charged with two counts theft under $5,000; single counts aggravated assault, theft of a vehicle, break enter and theft under $5,000, and a variety of firearms offences.

Antoine also faced additional charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to stop for a peace officer and point a firearm.

Asapace was also arrested on a warrant from RPS.

The investigation continues, and anyone with information that could assist police can contact their local police service, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
