REGINA – It will be another three weeks before the case of a man accused of stabbing a woman, then running her over twice will continue in court.
Tony Hudson, 54, appeared by video from the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre in Regina Provincial Court this morning. His lawyer also appeared by phone, asking for more time to speak with his client and for a doctor’s assessment of the man.
Hudson faces two counts attempted murder and single counts dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, and failure to stop after an accident that resulted in bodily harm.
Those charges stem from an incident back in June when police were called to the intersection of Victoria Avenue and St. John Street for a report of an injured woman lying in the street.
“When they [RPS members] arrived, they found the victim suffering from apparent stab wounds,” RPS said in a media release after the event.
As officers found their suspect, the man reversed the vehicle he was operating at a high rate of speed and drove over the woman. Despite police discharging a firearm, the driver fled and in the process, drove over the woman a second time. The victim was transported to hospital by EMS, and a police chase ensued - ending northeast of the city in a rural area.
Judge James Rybchuk granted the adjournment sought by defence counsel, with Hudson remanded and scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 19.
