SASKATOON – A man charged in 21-year-old Kaylum Tom’s death had an appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday and a preliminary hearing was set for September.
The hearing for 18-year-old Zennen Clyde Thomas will determine if there’s enough evidence for him to stand trial on a second-degree murder charge. He remains in custody.
Tom died of a gunshot wound in hospital on Dec. 1, 2022. Saskatoon Police had sent him to hospital by Medavie Heath Services West after occupants of a van flagged police down at about 11:30 a.m. in the area of 21st Street West and Avenue W.
Police released still images of video surveillance of Thomas and asked the public to report any sightings. He was soon arrested in the 200 block of Avenue I North after police had responded to a disturbance.
A 24-year-old woman and 31-year-old man who were wanted for questioning were located and released without charges.
The charge against Thomas hasn’t been tested in court.
