NORTH BATTLEFORD – A 26-year-old man will stand trial at Battleford Court of King’s Bench in the death of 24-year-old Wendy Bird. A trial date will be set.
Dustin Cookman-Watts was arrested in October 2022 and charged with second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and indignity to human remains.
A hearing for Cookman-Watts was scheduled for July 25 in North Battleford Provincial Court. Instead, there was a consent committal by Crown and defence to go to trial.
Bird’s body was found along Highway 16 near Maymont on Oct. 16, 2022. Warman RCMP had received a report of a deceased person along the four-lane highway.
