At one point, northern Manitoba went almost five months without a single case of COVID-19. As of Oct. 26, 60 people in the region now have the disease.
Ten new cases of COVID-19 were found in the Northern Health Region Oct. 26, with the The Pas/OCN/Kelsey health district reporting the brunt of active cases. Within the district, 22 cases of COVID-19 are active as of Oct. 22. At least two possible exposures have been announced at three area schools - Margaret Barbour Collegiate, Scott Bateman Middle School and Opasquia Elementary School - along with one at the bar at the New Avenue Hotel, where someone who tested positive for COVID-19 was from 3 p.m.-10 p.m. Oct. 20. The Scotiabank location at the Otineka Mall in OCN is also listed as a possible exposure site by the province - the bank has closed temporarily while contacts are investigated.
Six people within the NHR are hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Oct. 26, with one person in intensive care.
Fifteen cases are active in the Thompson/Mystery Lake district, where possible exposures have been reported at R.D. Parker Collegiate, Deerwood School and at hairstylist Salon Italia.
Funerals have been listed as possible outbreak sites in Norway House and in Lake St. Martin First Nation. A person who attended a funeral in Lake St. Martin Oct. 12 later tested positive, while another person who came to a funeral Oct. 20 in Norway House also tested positive for COVID-19. The person in Norway House was asymptomatic, but according to provincial health officials, the person was in a period where they may have been infectious. Health officials will be conducting contact tracing for anyone who may have been in contact with the positive cases and are advising all attendees to self-monitor for symptoms and to self-isolate and present for testing if symptoms arise.
Ten cases of COVID-19 are active in the Cross Lake-Pimicikamak district, while four cases are still classified as 鈥渦nknown district鈥� - possibly people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and whose provincial health information may not match their current address.
Districts with three active cases in northern Manitoba include Lynn Lake/Marcel Colomb/Leaf Rapids/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin/Granville Lake, Shamattawa/York Factory/Tataskweyak/Split Lake and Island Lake. Two cases are active in the Nelson House/Nisichawayasihk district near Thompson, while one case each is active in the Bay Line, Bunibonibee/Oxford House/Manto Sipi/Gods River/Gods Lake, Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon and Norway House health districts.
