Manitoba reported 135 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, including four in northern Manitoba - one new case in the Thompson/Mystery Lake district and three in the Cross Lake/Pimicikamak district.

None of the new cases have been linked to a known exposure event. No new cases have been reported in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon health district - one case, reported Oct. 20, remains active within the district.

Forty-six cases are currently active in northern Manitoba - 10 in the Thompson district, nine in Shamattawa/York Factory/Tataskweyak/Split Lake, six in the Cross Lake district, four in The Pas/Opaskweyak/Kelsey and three each in Bunibonibee/Oxford House/Manto Sipi/Gods River/Gods Lake, Lynn Lake/Leaf Rapids/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin/Granville Lake, Nelson House/Nisichawayasihk and an unknown district. Two cases are active in Island Lake and the Bay Line, Gillam/Fox Lake and Flin Flon districts each have one active case.

At least three schools in northern Manitoba have reported COVID-19 cases within their walls. A person who tested positive in Thompson had been at R.D. Parker Collegiate Oct. 15-16 while they may have been infectious.

Other cases of COVID-19-positive people in schools were reported in The Pas at both Opasquia Elementary School and Scott Bateman Middle School. People at the school may have been exposed to the disease Oct. 16. Letters were sent home to parents and guardians by the schools and the NHR.

Other possible public exposures have been reported in Gillam - at the Assiniboine Credit Union Oct. 13-16 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. - and in Thompson, at Salon Italia Oct. 9 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. An outbreak is still in effect at the Thompson YWCA, confined to the third floor of the facility, while travel into northern Manitoba from the south for non-essential purposes is still restricted.

The province also announced that a 43rd Manitoban had died due to COVID-19 - a man in his 80s whose case was linked to the ongoing outbreak at Winnipeg-area seniors facility Parkview Place. There are 1,774 people with active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba Wednesday. The provincial government did not supply data for how many people are in hospital or intensive care due to COVID-19, citing "a technical issue related to the data refresh".

Over the past five days, 4.8 per cent of all COVID-19 tests in Manitoba have come up positive.
