Take all the people in Flin Flon and Creighton and combine them. That number of people is now smaller than the number of active COVID-19 cases in Manitoba.

Northern Manitoba saw 40 new cases of COVID-19 Nov. 18.

The Pas/OCN/Kelsey district continues to see the brunt of northern COVID-19 cases, with 169 people now having active cases. Since the community outbreak began in The Pas/OCN/Kelsey, 266 people in the district have tested positive for COVID-19.Ìý

Active cases are also climbing in theÌýGrand Rapids/Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin district, where 48 people currently have COVID-19. Cases have been centered around the Mosakahiken Cree Nation area, where band officials have set up a series of checkpoints for people coming in and leaving the community. Scheduled shopping days, food deliveries, social distancing and mask use are all in effect at Mosakahiken to help fight COVID-19 spread.

Cases continue to be reported at Cross Lake, which now has 66 active cases. Cases in the Cross Lake area have hovered around the mid-to-late 60s in recent weeks, but the number of overall cases has increased - while the number of active cases has been constant, recoveries are beginning to increase, meaning new active cases have been reported to offset recovered cases. Cross Lake First Nation is still considered an active outbreak site by the provincial government, with special restrictions in effect for the area.

The Island Lake district in remote northeastern Manitoba also has 29 active cases of COVID-19, while 11 active cases are listed as "unknown district." The Thompson/Mystery Lake district is seeing a small increase in active cases, with 20 active cases.

All other northern Manitoba districts have seven cases or fewer, including the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon district, which has two active cases.Ìý

No new public exposures or outbreaks have been announced in Manitoba Wednesday.

Throughout the province, 399 net cases of COVID-19 were announced Wednesday, bringing the province up to 12,007 total cases of COVID-19. Of those 12,007 cases, 7,385 remain active. There are 249 Manitobans with COVID-19 in hospital, with 40 people in intensive care. In a Nov. 18 media briefing, Shared Health chief nursing officer Lanette Siragusa said 38 people are on ventilators in Manitoba due to COVID-19.

Another 11 COVID-19 deaths were reported by the province Nov. 18, with deaths reported in four of Manitoba's five health regions - the Northern Health Region (NHR) was the only region to not see a COVID-19 death Nov. 18. The deaths include a woman in her 50s from Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Health-Sante Sud, a man in his 60s from Winnipeg, two men in their 70s from the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority, two men in their 80s from Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Health, two men from Winnipeg in their 80s whose deaths were both tied to an outbreak at the Golden Links Lodge, a woman in her 80s from the Prairie Mountain Health region, a man in his 90s from Winnipeg and another woman in her 90s connected to Golden Links Lodge.

In the past five days, 14.2 per cent of all Manitobans who have been tested for COVID-19 have come up positive for the disease.

The province will begin issuing fines for people found not wearing masks in public spaces - a requirement of current public health orders. The fine, $298 in value, will be issued by provincial enforcement officers.

In Saskatchewan, 132 more cases of COVID-19 were announced province-wide, with most cases centred around Saskatoon, where 56 people tested positive. Six people tested positive for COVID-19 in the far north east 1 region, covering La Ronge, Â鶹´«Ã½AVend and other north central communities - no new cases were announced in the far north east 2 region, which includes Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay. Eight cases of COVID-19 are active in the far north east 2 region - the whereabouts of those cases within the region are unknown.
