Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education (KOBE) is seeking Youth Residential Worker/Safe Sober Site Driver - for the KOBE Safe Sober Site in Thunder Bay.

As per Recommendation #114 of the Seven Youth Inquest (June 28, 2016), there has been 鈥渁n identified need for an alternative detoxification facility in the City of Thunder Bay that would provide the proper supports and supervision for any youth who may be struggling with alcohol/substance misuse.鈥 KOBE has established a Safe Sober Site in the City of Thunder Bay since 2018. The KOBE Safe Sober Site in Thunder Bay is available for our students, aged 13-21 years of age, that need a safe and supervised detoxification and stabilization. KOBE will work in co-operation with local service providers to provide a quick response to meet the needs of our students.

The Youth Residential Workers will work under the direction of the Student Services Supervisor and the Senior Manager of Student and Academic Support Services, in the implementation and delivery of detoxification services for youth who are in the KOBE Student Services Program. The Youth Residential Worker will ensure the ordered care plans are followed, will supervise students at the site while they detoxify, and will provide support to students in their after-care plans. The Youth Residential Worker will maintain case notes, tracking of any referrals/specialized services, after-care services, and program reporting requirements. The Youth Residential Worker would also work with the Addictions Crisis Worker, and KOBE Student Services On-Call Team to minimize gaps and improve overall services.

The following are the requirements for this position:
鈼 Diploma in Social Work, Social Service Worker or related field an asset
鈼 Minimum of 2 years experience working in a related field or with First Nation youth
鈼 Knowledge of First Nation Education & Health issues, and Challenges
鈼 Ability to speak one of the local dialects is an asset
鈼 Strong Interpersonal Skills
鈼 Valid Class G Driver鈥檚 License
鈼 Must be willing to provide a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Background Check
鈼 Able to work effectively with others
鈼 Ability to work independently
鈼 Ability to work shift work

Duties will include, but may not be limited to:

The Youth Residential Worker will take direction from the Student Services Supervisor, Senior Manager of Student and Academic Support Services and the KOBE Director of Education.

Duties include:

鈼 Maintain a culturally safe environment for students who require care while detoxifying;
鈼 Ongoing communication with the KOBE On-Call Workers to determine the student needs and any information that they may be aware of;
鈼 Provide timely incident reporting to management and to the KOBE Well Being Team;
鈼 Maintain communication processes with the KOBE Well Being Team in all areas of after-care (return to boarding home/school, communication to Parents, to Boarding Home Parents/School Staff, etc.);
鈼 Attend all training identified by the Student Services Supervisor in areas that would be relevant to their position;
鈼 Weekly programming to KOBE students to support their Well Being;
鈼 Ensure timely reporting and development of materials required to carry out services;
鈼 Travel to the Keewaytinook Okimakanak communities, as required;
鈼 Able to do after hours shift work;
鈼 Other related duties as set by the KO Board of Education and KOBE Management.

Salary range: $48,000 - $81,000 based on education and experience. KOBE offers a Comprehensive Benefit Package.
