YORKTON – Results of the recent board election were approved at the Nov. 15 Yorkton Chamber of Commerce regular board meeting.

Only seven nominations were received for the eight positions available. Returning to the Board by acclamation are Annelle Bodnarik, Bob Knox, Mike Stackhouse and Stephanie Buckle. 

New to the Board, also by acclamation, are Ajay Tadi, Geoff Brand and Mary Carvalho, leaving one vacant position.

Juanita Polegi, Executive Director of the Chamber explained the process for filling a vacancy. 

“According to the Chamber’s constitution members may be appointed to the Board when a vacancy occurs,” said Juanita Polegi, Executive Director of the Chamber. 

“At this morning’s meeting the Board appointed Paul Hoffman to fill that position," added Polegi.

The eight Directors will each serve a two year term beginning Jan. 1, 2024. They will be joined by the Directors serving the second year of their two year term including Alicia Simoneau, Amit Patel, Doug Forster, Jody McPhee, Melody Kelts, Nicole Campbell, Sunil Shah and Tristen Sawchuk.

“With the mix of new and seasoned Directors I believe the Board will bring strong leadership to the business community,” said Polegi, adding, “as the 'voice of business in Yorkton and district' the Chamber will continue to express the concerns of the business community to all orders of government.”

An election is for the chamber board is held every November to fill half the board positions.

In order to run for a position on the Board, candidates must be members of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce or represent businesses which hold membership in the Chamber. The new members of the board will take their seat at the Chamber Board table in Jan. at which time the Executive is then elected by the Directors.

The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce is “the voice of business in Yorkton” and represents over 430 members. 2024 marks the Chamber’s 126th year.
