YORKTON - Three Yorkton athletes, Zisu Yang, Nathan Whitney, and Lily Whitney attended the Saskatoon Developmental Regatta on Sunday, June 23.

All three athletes performed very well at the event, noted Elia Bolme, head coach with the Yorkton Canoe Kayak Club in a release from the club.

Nathan Whitney won gold in all of his events: U14 K1 200, U14 K1 500, U16 K1 200m, Men’s Biathlon and the Coach and Athlete race.

Lily Whitney, despite being injured, won gold in U14 K1 200m, and silver in U14 K1 500m.

Zisu Yang won her individual races and was ranked 3rd overall in U12 (Male and Female).

The athletes were supported by new YCKC Head Coach, Elia Bolme.

Bolme has been involved in YCKC since 2016 and has been a well ranked athlete as well as assistant coach over the past few years.

“This was the first competition of the season and our athletes had a great performance,” said Bolme, “we’ve had awful weather the past few weeks and the kids haven’t had much time to train on water. Achieving these results despite limited training was a great indication of the upcoming season. I’m looking forward to seeing them participate in the Sask Summer Games in July!”
