YORKTON – The Tower Theatre in Yorkton held a special screening of the 1987 Star Wars parody classic, Space Balls, on the evening of Jan. 29.

The event was part of an ongoing series of classic films brought to the community by Colosseum Presents.

The Saskatoon-based organization aims to bring a beloved classic film to the theatre at least once a month, providing the community with opportunities to experience timeless cinematic gems on the big screen.

Kerri Nagy, manager of the Tower Theatre, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership.

"Our customers are pretty excited about it," said Nagy.

So far, the theatre has screened the science fiction hit Jurassic Park and the holiday comedy Christmas Vacation. Looking ahead, the theatre plans to feature the romantic dance drama Dirty Dancing on Valentine's Day.

Nagy shared her excitement about potential future screenings, hinting at the possibility of Steven Spielberg's 1985 adventure comedy, Goonies, in March, as well as the Robert Zemeckis blockbuster Back to the Future, also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

"I'm hoping that we can keep the attendance up and keep showing more," said Nagy, adding, "I would like to show a lot more classic films and special screenings — I just need to find the interest for it."

Nagy also noted that the theatre has received several requests for the 1975 cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, known for its interactive audience participation.

Nagy said she's open to the idea of a more interactive environment when it comes to certain films.

The next scheduled classic to be screened at the theatre is Dirty Dancing, starring 1980s heartthrob Patrick Swayze, and is scheduled for Feb. 14.
