The Meeple Guild: PnP Summer #10: take a quest at coffeetime

This is not the best PnP, but it exudes a certain charm and simple fun, that it is still well worth the effort to create.

Quests Over Coffee has multiple expansions – all of them free to print – and very suddenly you can have a significant stack of cards printed, cut, and sleeved.

YORKTON - Quests Over Coffee is a simple little 18 card print and play, or started out that way.

When a game is only a couple of pages of cards the cost is low. The time to create is low. It’s the sort of game worth ‘the risk’ to try.

But, beware!

Quests Over Coffee has multiple expansions – all of them free to print – and very suddenly you can have a significant stack of cards printed, cut, and sleeved.

Of course if you start adding expansions you probably liked the game, so that is a good thing, but QOC can become a significant card build rather quickly.

This one is a solo game, where you toss dice, and hope the rolls favour success – rarely for this roller I must admit.

You play out five quest cards from what can become a sizable selection with the expansions. You choose one of the five and roll three D6 to defeat the quest or fail.

Nope no skill but fun in part powered by cartoonish art and cute quips on many cards.

As you defeat quests, you can gain items which you can use as you move on to another quest card or you may be able to purchase items to help.

Other expansions add characters that can help you on you quests and weather cards which impact play. While not essential these cards add some decisions and depth to a play through.

Still a game is quick – hence the idea of a quest over coffee.

This is not the best PnP, but it exudes a certain charm and simple fun, that it is still well worth the effort to create.
