YORKTON – When you are a team in last place in your division wins are much-needed.
Tuesday the Yorkton Terriers got one of those much-needed wins in a come-from-behind at the Westland Insurance Arena over divisional rival Estevan.
The visiting Bruins jumped out to the early lead as Gabriel Filion scored at 6:00, and Ilia Chmelevski at 16:50 for a 2-0 lead through 20-minutes of play.
David Coyle cut the head in half with the only goal of the middle frame at 10:56.
In the third period Aiden Knutson scored on the powerplay at 7:45 to tie things 2-2.
The Bruins inched back in front when Luke Rybinski scored his first of the campaign at the 14:00 mark.
Jaron Desnoyers replied for the Terriers at 18:12 to tie the game 3-3, and it was off to extra time.
It took only 51 seconds of extra time to decide things as Quintin Unreiner scored the game-winner for the Terriers.
Ethan Farrow was in the Terrier net facing 27 shots.
Jackson Miller took the loss guarding the twine for the Bruins, facing 38-shots.
With the win the Terriers now sit only one game back of Weyburn in the Viterra Division for third place. Yorkton has 38 points, the Wings 39. The Bruins lead the Viterra with 44 points with Melville second with 43 points.
Next up for the Terriers is a road contest back in Estevan Saturday.
