YORKTON – The Senior Raider Gridders hosted the Estevan Elecs the evening of Sept. 15 for some under the lights action.
It was a blowout victory for the Raiders who are now riding a two game win streak in the regular season.
"For the young players that have moved up from our junior program — they've done a really good job of understand our concepts," said Coach Jason Boyda in an interview with Yorkton This Week.
"Their physical play — their football IQ — has really improved which has been a nice surprise for us," added Boyda.
As for the veteran players returning to the team, Boyda said it's like they never left.
"Some have been with us for three years — it looks like they never left the football field since last season — they've been great leaders," said Boyda, adding, "they've basically been an extra set of coaches on the field coaching the young players that we have this year."
"We always strive for perfection but we never get there," said Boyda, noting that the team could still use work in some areas.
"We had some receivers that went the wrong way — they're a little slow with their waggle," said Boyda, adding "that's an area that we can control — it has nothing to do with the other team — that's something that we need to do a better job with our receiver players."
"Defensively we've had a couple defensive players both in the same gap," said Boyda, "we haven't been very gap and alignment strong at times so we need to work on that as well."
"Our convert team has been in an area that we need to improve as well with protection and just the whole execution of it," added Boyda.
The team will head to Swift Current on the coming weekend to take on a team which Boyda said may pose more of a threat.
"They're well coached they're very physical they like to blitz quite a bit defensively," said Boyda, adding, "we've just go to make sure that we execute our game plan and that we're a really relentless seven-second competitor on every single play."
