Maulers go 2-1 in week of matches

Team will host the Warman Wildcats at Westland Arena Jan. 26.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers bested the Saskatoon Contacts in an exciting matchup Jan. 14 at Westland Arena.

YORKTON – The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers faced off against the Saskatoon Contacts, the Regina Pat Canadians and the Notre Dame Hounds in successive matches throughout the week of Jan. 14 – 19.

Game 1

The Maulers hosted the Saskatoon Contacts at Westland Arena the evening of Jan. 14.

The first period saw little action from either side until Contact Davey Fisher put one past the Maulers' netminder with 3:50 remaining in the period.

Maulers' Orsen Poll opened up scoring in the second period and a short time later teammate Brodie Heimbecker made use of a power play effort. Closing out scoring for the period was Mauler Layne McKechnie.

Mauler Ryder Woods put the Contacts at a three goal deficit to start the third period. Contact Matt Henkelman looked to bring his team back into the mix, scoring two successive goals which were answered by Maulers Aiden Vallance and Theron Watteyne.

Casson Silbernagel was in net for the Maulers, facing 46 shots and blocking 43.

Nick Goodwin was in net for the Contacts, facing 29 chosts and blocking 23.

Game 2

Jan. 18 the Maulers hosted the Regina Pat Canadians at the Canora Civic Centre.

Pat Canadian Maddox Schultz captialized on a power play effort midway through the first period to open up scoring for the match.

Mauler Ryder Woods was first to score for the team in the second period but Pat Canadians Chase Surkan and Ryan Ulmer made two successive goals setting the score at 3-1 for the Pat Canadians to end the second period.

Mauler Kale Johns scored in the opening minutes of the first period, but the Pat Canadians' Logan Mehl answered less than a minute later. Another successful power play effort by Maddox Schultz finalized the score at 5-2 for the Pat Canadians.

Reid Schweitzer was in net for the Maulers facing 48 shots and saving 43.

Adam Muntain was in net for the win, saving 15 of the 17 shots against.

Game 3

Jan. 19 the Kinsmen Maulers hosted the Notre Dame Hounds at Westland Arena.

The Maulers scored three unanswered goals in the latter half of the first period, coming by way of Brodie Heimbecker, Kale Johns and Brady Simpson.

The Maulers capitalized on a power play effort less than a minute into the second period and was scored by Mauler Ryder Woods. A minute later, teammate Aidan Vallance put the team at a five goal surplus. However, a goal from the Hounds' Ryder Gilroy and two from Brodyn Pladson left the Maulers with only a two goal lead to end the period.

The only action of the third period a successful power play effort from Ryder McKinnon resulting in the 6-3 win for the Maulers.

Casson Silbernagel was in net for the win, saving 24 of the 27 shots against.

Sam Koester saw 47 shots against, saving 41.

The Maulers will host the Warman Wildcats 2:00 PM at Westland Arena Jan. 26.
