YORKTON – The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research is seeking applications for a member, GDI Board of Governors in the Eastern Region IIA.

The area includes Yorkton, Langenburg, Melville, Togo and Esterhazy.

The Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI) Board of Governors represents the organization's 12 regions and is ratified by the Provincial Métis Council (PMC) of the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S).

The PMC member responsible for the Education portfolio serves as the board's chairperson. Governors are appointed for three-year terms, renewable for up to two terms. Employees, staff members or managers of affiliated MN–S organizations are ineligible for board membership.

The Board of Governors oversees GDI operations and governance, which includes adopting policies for effective operation, developing and implementing strategic plans, approving budgets, audits and programs, and serving as ambassadors for GDI. Board members are responsible for encouraging Métis students and representing the institute to government, Métis communities, and the general public. The board also appoints the Chief Executive Officer, who manages day-to-day operations.

Eligible appointees must be of Métis ancestry with knowledge of Saskatchewan Métis culture, history, and social circumstances. Preferred skills and training include education, finance, business, human resources, law, and communications. Individuals with extensive Métis cultural and language experience are encouraged to apply. A criminal record vulnerable sector check must accompany all applications.

Interested candidates may apply through the MN–S region or directly to GDI. Applications are forwarded to the relevant MN–S region, where a regional council meeting determines the nominee. The nominee is then submitted for ratification by the PMC and forwarded to the Minister of Advanced Education.

The appointment starts in 2025, following the process. Applications must be submitted by March 20.
