YORKTON - Councillor Randy Goulden will once again represent the City of Yorkton as its representative on the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association.
“The Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association is made up of the four western provinces, and is a non-profit association which was established in 1947 to promote the development, maintenance and use of the Yellowhead Corridor as vital to Canada’s national transportation and national unity,” detailed a report circulated to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday, March 24.
“Their mandate is advocacy for the development, maintenance, use and enhancement of the Yellowhead Highway and promotion of its benefits and assets to industry, tourists, governments and communities,” said Jessica Matsalla – City Clerk with the city.
The city, because it is on the Yellowhead highway “has opted to hold a membership,” said Matsalla.
“Councillor Randy Goulden has been appointed as the City of Yorkton’s representative since 2012 and has indicated that she is willing to continue to serve in this capacity for the 2024-2028 Council term,” she continued.
Goulden's appointment was unanimous with Mayor Aaron Kienle, and Councillors Dustin Brears & Quinn Haider as alternates.
There is a financial consideration with being part of the organization, with the fee based on a per capita formula.
Based on the 2021 census Yorkton’s fee is $0.20 per head equalling about $3,256.00 for 2025. This has traditionally been budgeted for in legislative memberships, explained Matsalla.
