Cocaine, methamphetamine, and loaded gun seized in traffic stop

KEESEEKOOSE FIRST NATION  - A man is facing drug- and weapons-related charges following a police seizure during a traffic stop.

On Jan. 15 at approximately 5:35 p.m., Kamsack RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle near Keeseekoose First Nation.

Officers responded, locating the suspicious vehicle parked on the side of a grid road. Officer engaged their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. When police approached the vehicle, they recognized the driver, an adult male, as he was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Brandon Police Service. Officers also observed open alcohol inside the vehicle. The adult male was arrested at the scene.

During subsequent investigation, officers located and seized approximately 28 grams of cocaine, approximately 23 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded shotgun, a knife, and a sum of cash inside the vehicle.

As a result of continued investigation, a 27-year-old man, from Keeseekoose First Nation, is charged with:

  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine;
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine;
  • one count, trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000;
  • one count, operation of a motor vehicle while impaired;
  • one count, operation of a motor vehicle with blood alcohol concentration greater than 80 mg;
  • one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized;
  • one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle;
  • one count, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without licence/registration;
  • one count, unsafe storage of a firearm; and
  • two counts, weapons possession contrary to order.

He appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court on Jan. 16.
