YORKTON – The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce and the City of Yorkton are hosting a public town hall to discuss how property assessments and taxes are determined.

The event is scheduled for March 26 at 7 p.m. at the National Bank Convention Centre in the Gallagher Centre. Guest speakers include Sheldon Stechyshyn, regional manager with the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency, and Ashley Stradeski, Yorkton's Director of Finance.

Juanita Polegi, the Chamber's Executive Director, said the event is meant to address confusion in the community.

"We often hear from the business community that they don’t understand how their property was assessed or the taxes levied," said Polegi, adding, "the Chamber’s directors thought an event such as this would help to explain that."

With the city's tax notices recently issued, organizers say now is an ideal time to hold the town hall, as questions are fresh in the minds of residents and business owners.

The Chamber encourages the public to attend this free event to learn more about property assessments and taxes.
