YORKTON – Participants of the BGC Yorkton Day Camp were out selling lemonade and cookies outside the organization's Smith Street location July 27.
"These are some of our summer day camp kids — we have three camps running — but this is what we classify as some of our older kids," said Erin Roussin, Director of Operation with BGC Yorkton.
Roussin said the lemonade stand is part of an entrepreneurship project for youths.
"They work together to write sponsorship letters. They took the letter to businesses to ask for support, they designed their posters, took them out and delivered them around the community," said Roussin.
"Part of what they're doing with their efforts is they're going to treat themselves," said Roussin, noting that the youths will decide what they want to do for themselves with a portion of the funds they earn, adding it would likely be an ice cream party.
"The rest of the money that they raise they want to go back into programming efforts," said Roussin.
Throughout the day, the BGC youths raised $1,074.10 for their efforts.
