YORKTON – The Yorkton Activity Expo took place at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall Aug. 21 and the public came out in numbers to see firsthand what the community has to offer.
The city-wide registration night had 41 vendors showcasing everything from sport, recreation, art culture and everything in between.
"This is really exposure for the entire year but we want families to get ready for the school year that is upon us and get there kids plugged into whatever activity or organization they may have had their eyes on for the fall," told Jessica Resler, Recreation Services Manager with the city, in an interview with SASKTODAY.ca
Resler said this year's Activity Expo was a re-envisioning of past city-wide registration nights.
"It's a really interactive experience for both vendors and participants," said Resler, adding, "we have provided a passport system so we're encouraging community members to visit at least nine booths — getting them more engaged with what we truly have in Yorkton."
The passport system had participants visit booths, do an activity, ask questions and get connected with different organizations. Those who completed the activities got entered into a raffle prize draw.
Resler estimated that the night would attract anywhere from 300-400 people.
"It's a great turnout. I'm super encouraged by the community coming out to support us and our new initiative. I think it's been a really great success," said Resler.
