Melanie Zinchuk

It is with great sadness we mark the passing of Melanie Dianne Marie Zinchuk, born Oct. 15, 1979 and passed away May 3, 2015. Melanie was born at Norquay Union Hospital to Lorne and Phyllis Zinchuk (nee Marnovich). As a child she was raised on a farm near Hyas, SK. In 1985 she moved to Yorkton, where she attended Dr. Brass School, C.J. Houston Jr. High and Yorkton Regional High School. In high school she did double duty as a candy striper and also worked part-time in retail. Upon graduation in 1997, she was accepted into the Nursing Education Program of Saskatchewan at SIAST and the University of Saskatchewan. During her nursing training she did her practicums in Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, NWT. To pay for school she worked at fly-in fishing camps at Kasba Lake and Great Bear Lake, NWT., in keeping with her love of fishing. Remaining in Saskatoon upon convocation with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2001, Melanie soon found work on the medical ward of Saskatoon City Hospital. With restructuring of the hospital she spent several years working as a float nurse, where she had to apply her skills in almost every ward of the hospital. Melanie was most at home with a fishing rod in one hand, a coffee cup in the other, a fish on her hook, and a campfire burning nearby. Her favourite times were spent with friends and family doing exactly that. Melanie Zinchuk leaves to mourn the love of her life, Devin Kardynal; mother Phyllis Stroud (nee Zinchuk, Marnovich); step-father Brad Stroud; father Lorne Zinchuk; brother Brian (Michelle) Zinchuk and their children Katrina and Spencer; sister Courtney Stroud; step-grandmother Pat Stroud as well as many friends and family members. She is predeceased by grandparents Harry and Mary Zinchuk, Edward and Anne Marnovich; and aunt Marlene Gazdewich. The funeral took place at Marten's Warman Funeral Home, Warman, Sask. on May 7, 2015. Internment was on May 8, at Canora Cemetery.
