Orland Zimmer of Yorkton, beloved husband of Gladys passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on May 9, 2013. Orland Karl Zimmer was born on February 12, 1939 to Emil and Frieda (nee Edel) Zimmer on a farm in the Shevlin district near Roblin, MB. He grew up and attended Shevlin School. He was always willing to help his parents on the family farm. He worked as a seasonal worker on the railroad for one year and the following summer obtained work with Canada Packers at which time he met Gladys Proskie. Orland and Gladys were married on February 2, 1962 in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Shevlin. They moved to Dauphin, MB where he continued employment with Canada packers and later Canada Safeway. In April of 1965 they moved to Yorkton, SK where he obtained work with the Yorkton Canada Safeway store, which was his pride. He was extremely proud to have received his twenty - five year service award with Safeway. His favourite pastime was bowling at least twice a week. Never missing Terrier Hockey games and watching all sports on TV. His grandchildren were his pride which prompted a weekly trip to Lintlaw, SK. He loved them greatly and did many special things for them. In 1998 due to deteriorating health Orland entered the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where he continued to live his passing. Orland was predeceased by his parents Emil in 1989 and Frieda in 1997; his father-in-law, Joe Proskie in 2002 and his mother-in-law, Julia in 2007; sisters-in-law, Audrey and Elaine Zimmer; nephews, Myles Mickelson and Glen Zimmer. Orland will be missed by his loving wife, Gladys; his daughter, Sandra (Charles) Weinhandl of Lintlaw and his son, Marvin of Saskatoon; five grandchildren, Carl (Darcy), Amanda (Jon), Heather (Lee), Jessika and Mirissa; four great grandchildren, Charles, Simon, Hailey and Macyn; two brothers, Ken (Wilma) of Roblin, MB and Don (Wanda) Nanaimo, BC; two sisters; Loretta (Oliver) Mickelson of Roblin, MB and Joan (Ron) Gagne of Selkirk, MB; Edward Zimmer; two brothers-in-law, Tony (Helen) Proskie of Winnipeg, MB and Terry Proskie of Yorkton; as well as many aunts, nieces, nephews and extended family. The Christian Funeral Service was held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Rev. Daniel Moeller officiating. Vicar Paul Preus served as the Liturgist. The organist, Verna Liebrecht led in the singing of the hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" and "Old Rugged Cross". Everyone that was a part of Orland's life were considered as honourary bearers. The interment took place at Yorkton City Cemetery with Marvin Zimmer serving as the urn bearer. Memorial donations honouring Orland's life may be made towards The North 1 Garden at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.baileysfuneralhome.com.
