George Zich who passed away September 11, 2014 at the age of 89. George was born to Michael Zich and Helena Dudek in Kremenec, Poland on August 10, 1925. His parents came by ship to Canada in 1926. George grew up on a farm near Esterhazy. He attended school at Scandia School which was 4 miles from home. George attended school until grade 8. George was the oldest, with 1 younger brother James and 2 younger sisters Violet and Marian. His mother passed away when George was just a young boy. George married the Love of his life Frances (Maga) an amazing wonderful Angel on July 8, 1952. They adopted 2 children Michael and Connie and they resided in Esterhazy. George and Frances owned and operated Maple Street Garage an International and a Volkswagen Dealership in the early 60's. He was also a genuine farmer. In 1969 George and Frances moved their house in Esterhazy to Churchbridge where they raised their family and farmed for many years. George and Frances were married for 31 years before she passed away in 1983 after a long battle with cancer. George loved camping, fishing, bowling, playing cards, dancing and getting together with family and friends. He enjoyed Sunday drives looking at all the crops during harvest time. He also served his time on the Credit Union Board and many other committees. George's favourite team was the Toronto Blue Jays which he would watch the games on TV cheering them on and no sooner was the game over and he was snoring in his chair. George is predeceased by his father Michael, mother Helena, step-mothers Olga & Mary his father & mother- in-law Peter & Steffa Maga, his sister Violet, his brothers-in-law Emil, Charlie, Peter, Wayne and sisters-in-law Evelyn, Mary, Alice, Nellie & Josie. George was truly blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his children & their spouses, Michael Zich & Rosemary Laxdal, Connie & Gerry Ewachow. His grandchildren & their spouses Robert & Lisa Zich, Melanie Zich & Rob Schmidt, Ken Zich, Ray Zich, Michael & Carrie Tanchyk, Malory Neyedly & Travis Alton, Rochelle Neyedly, Brandyn Neyedly & Jodi Mahlberg, Jacob Ewachow & Carson Ewachow. Great-grandchildren Isabella Zich, Kayla Zich, Avery Schmidt, Keiran Zich, Anna, Jake, Maille Tanchyk, Huntyr & Danyka Alton & Haley Neyedly, also sister Marian (Tom) Weselak and brother Jim (Enid) Zich. George will be remembered for his outgoing personality. He was also known for answering a question with a question. One of the famous was When asked, "How are you?" He would reply, "How should I BE?" May He Rest In Peace...Funeral Mass For George, was held at Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church, Esterhazy, SK on September 17, 2014 with Father Valentine Amobi as the Celebrant. Family Members: Michael, Rosemary, Connie & Gerry did the placing of the Pall. The choir and organist Joan Petracek led the congregation in the singing of "Only A Shadow", "Gifts of Finest Wheat", "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "The Strife is O'er". Altar Servers were Willard Sikora, Bill Pozniak, Leonard Knourek and Arnold Petracek. The Pallbearers were Gerry Ewanchow, Brandyn Neyedly, Robert Zich, Ken Zich, Michael Tanchyk & Michael Zich. Honourary Pallbearers were All those in Attendance. Interment followed at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery. Donations can be made to St. Anthony's Hospital Building Fund, Esterhazy.
