ZAZULA - Frances

Frances Zazula (nee Harrick), 5th of 10 children, was born on the farm in the Plainview District to Joseph and Polly Harrick on March 27, 1928. She worked in Melville, Yorkton and Winnipeg. While travelling to Hamilton, Ontario, she met John Zazula. They were married on October 15, 1950 in Plainview and began farming in the Hendon area. In 1960, they purchased a farm north of Invermay. In 1976, while continuing to farm, they purchased and ran the Buchanan Hotel. In 1979, they moved back to the farm where they remained until 1993. They lived in Invermay until 2006 where Frances enjoyed gardening, playing cards, going for walks, fishing and pattern dancing with many friends. She was an active member of St. Vladmir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was an expert perogy maker and enjoyed cooking and hosting special occasions, especially Easter and Christmas. In 2006, John and Frances moved to Yorkton and the following year, Frances moved into St. Paul's Nursing Home in Melville and the into the Yorkton and District Nursing home until her passing on May 17, 2013. Survived by and leaving to mourn her passing are her husband of 62 years, John, sons Don (Susan) of Saskatoon, Harvey (Lorraine) of Yorkton and Darcy (Linda) of Red Deer, AB, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn 3 sisters, Hattie (Paul) Hnatiuk, Violet (William) Harasymuk, Rosie (Mike) Kolanko and brother Harvey (Elaine) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by great grandson, Keadon, brothers Paul, Matt and Walter and sisters Lena Schram and Betty Fedek. Frances' family was very important to her. She cherished her time with her grandchildren, whether it was baking, making perogies, weeding the garden, raising chickens or just giving "Granny Franny" advice. Frances was laid to rest at the Wadena Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements. Donations made in Frances' memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
