Mrs. Mary (Marie) Yuzyk of Saskatoon, formerly of Yorkton and Kamsack passed away on June 27, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 90 years. Mary Yuzyk (Nykolyshyn) was born November 2, 1923 in the Roblin district of Manitoba, daughter of George and Wasylina (Derkach) Nykolyshyn. She completed her education in Roblin and as a young girl joined the army in 1942 and worked in the hospital. After the army Mary moved to Winnipeg where she worked and later returned to be closer to home. On November 22, 1950 Mary was united in marriage to Albin Yuzyk at Kamsack, SK. Their marriage was conducted by Rev. Father Frank Yuzyk, brother to Albin. The couple farmed in the Veregin district until 1979 when they retired from farming and moved to Kamsack. In 1983 the couple moved to Yorkton continuing to enjoy their retirement. In September of 1993 Albin passed away and Mary continued to reside in Yorkton until July of 2012 to be closer to family. Mary will be remembered as a kind woman. Her family was a great source of pride to her. In her younger years Mary enjoyed bowling and continued this into her senior years. She also enjoyed doing macramé and crocheting. Mary also greatly enjoyed the company of her friends. She leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, three sons, Frank of Calgary, Bill and his wife Lorraine of Saskatoon and Leonard and his wife Karin of Winnipeg; five grandchildren Krista, Rachelle and David, Kristin and Tyler; four great grandchildren Bailey, Laila, Sofia and Lyle. She is survived by three sisters Stella, Pauline and Gloria. Mary predeceased by two brothers Walter and Fred and two sisters Ollie and Jean. The Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. The cross bearer was Rachelle Yuzyk and the readers were Frank & David Yuzyk. The gift bearers were Bill & Lorraine Yuzyk. The organist, Judy Berg led members of St. Gerard's Choir in the singing of the hymns, Glory and Praise to Our God, Psalm 116, Peace is Flowing Like a River, Like a Shepherd, Song of the Angels and How Great Thou Art. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery Ed Yuzyk, Bill Yuzyk, David Yuzyk, Leonard Yuzyk and John Uhryn serving as the casket bearers.
