YAWNEY - Ernest Jacob

Ernest Jacob Yawney, eldest son of John and Antonia Yawney, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home in Gorlitz, Sk. on January 5, 2014 at the age of 70 years. Ernest was born at home on the farm in Rama, Sk, and received his education in nearby in Dernick. He spent his life as a drywaller and had a reputation for his expertise. Ernie was happiest when he was working with his hands. Whether he was repairing engines, woodworking, drywalling, refinishing/restoring, painting, body working or cooking, all of these interests reflected someone who always did their best. Ernest was truly gifted in having the passion that his workmanship be of the highest standard. We already miss him, and are especially grateful to have as souvenirs some of the items he made: frames for pictures, pedestals, kitchen island, writing desks, and carved crosses. Ernie leaves to mourn his other nine siblings: Iris Yawney of Dauphin, MB, Evelyn (Ed) of Lloydminster, SK, Irene Yawney of Springside, SK, Rudy (Chris)Yawney of Cochrane, AB, Mary (Tom) Stefaniw of Calgary, AB, Nick (Lorna) Yawney of Mara Lake, BC, Theresa (Doug) Proud of Peace River, AB, James Yawney of Edmonton, AB and Jerry Yawney of Otthan, SK as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Antonia Yawney, his infant sister, Jane, nephew Tyler Eckhart, and great-niece, Erin Jezowski. Prayers were held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 and the Requiem Divine Liturgy was sung on Monday, January 13, 2014. Both services were held from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. officiating. The responses were led by Mr. Ed Pindus and members of the Yorkton Ukrainian Catholic Choir. The Cross Bearer was Jerry Yawney and the Epistle was read by Rudy Yawney. The Interment followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. Luke with Rudy Yawney, Nick Yawney, Justin Yawney, Doug Proud, Nestor Mykytyshyn and Lawrence Rehaluk serving as the casket bearers. The Honourary Pallbearers were James Yawney, George Flundra, Hector Jarvais and Ricky Falkowsky. During the reception that followed the interment, Ernest was remembered in tribute and eulogy by his sister, Theresa Proud.
