WIRL - Stan

Posted

Stan Wirl

Stan Wirl was born on January 28, 1938, the son of Alex and Agnes (nee Hemauer) Wirl. He was born in the Landshut district, lived most of his life in the Langenburg area and retired in Churchbridge. Stan married his lifetime friend and partner, Helen (nee Petracek) on May 4, 1965.  They had three children, Glen, Audrey and Kimberly. Stan was a general labourer, and a jack of all trades. If anything was broken, Stan could surely fix it. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, carpentry and puttering in his shop. Stan and Helen enjoyed travelling. Their favorite trips were those taken to the United States to attend Polka Festivals. They also enjoyed spending time at Child's Lake, camping and fishing. Stan also enjoyed meeting new people and could easily converse with anyone he had just met, and made many new friends this way. His Catholic faith was a very important part of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and was always a good sport in letting them dress him up in crazy outfits. Stan was predeceased by his father, Alex; his mother, Agnes; and brothers, Harry and Daniel. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and beloved wife of almost 50 years, Helen; his son, Glen (Kim) Wirl and their children, Jeffrey and Josie of Lemberg, SK; his daughter, Audrey (Grant) and their children, Carly, Hailey and Rylan of Yorkton, SK; and his daughter, Kimberly (Michael) Stevenson and their children, Julia and Morgan of Kelowna, BC; as well as many extended family members. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, March 6, 2015 from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Churchbridge, SK with Father Bruno Moduthagam and Father Rick Krofchek officiating. The Pall was placed by Stan's children.  Members of St. Joseph's Folk Group and St. Mary's Choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Peace Prayer", "Peace is Flowing Like a River", "I Will Raise Him Up" and "Only a Shadow". The readers were Kristin Sauser and Heather Wawro. The Cross Bearer was Kimberly Stevenson and the Gift Bearers were Julia Stevenson and Carly Landstad.  The Interment Service followed in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church Parish Cemetery in Langenburg  with Michael Stevenson, Grant Landstad, Kevin Spelay, Randy Halliday, Kelly Halliday and Wes VanCaeseele serving as the casket bearers. The honourary pallbearers were Stan's grandchildren, Jeffrey Wirl, Josie Wirl, Carly Landstad, Hailey Landstad, Rylan Landstad, Julia Stevenson and Morgan Stevenson. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
