Stanley William Wicker was born on September 14, 1933, the second of three children born to J.W. (Bill) and Ethel (nee James) Wicker in the village of Kelliher, SK. Stan attended Kelliher School. Living in the closest home to the school, he felt it was his duty to be the last pupil to arrive and the first one out the door when the bell rang after school. Stan spent many summers with the Weiss children on their parents' farm and loved the farm life. However, a farmer Stan was not to be. After school, at a young age, he worked for A.B. Long John Deere. He then worked with his father who had the North Star Oil Agency. In 1952, his father build a shop for him. In those days, winters were much slower, so as a young man he spent several winters in Vancouver. He loved the city life, but loved Kelliher more. On October 12, 1963, Stan and Laurine Graham were married. Three sons were born to them. Stan went to Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon and SIAST in Moose Jaw to obtain his Mechanics Certificate and Heavy Duty Mechanics Certificate. Working with his brother, George, Stan did auto repair and ran the Shell Oil Agency. Stan passed away on October 4, 2013 at the Lakeside Nursing Home in Wolseley, SK. He was 80 years of age. Stan will always be remembered for his quick wit; his hundreds of unique expressions - sometimes funny, sometimes not, but you always clearly knew what was implied; and most of all for the love he shared with his family. Stan was predeceased by his parents, J.W. and Ethel; his parents-in-law, Les and Jessie Graham and his brother-in-law, Herman Rempel. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Laurine; his three sons, Pat (Pattheera), Brent and Shawn; his grandson, Kyle; one sister, Gladys Rempel and one brother, George (Lynn); Laurine's siblings and their spouses, Lloyd (Lois) Graham, Jim (Diane) Graham, Carol (Dr. Jake) Reimer and Shirley (Dr. Trevor) Bay as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many good friends. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, October 11, 2013 from St. Paul United Church in Kelliher, SK with Reverend Brian Mee officiating. The organist, Lenore Fincati led the congregation in the singing of the hymns. The Urn Bearer was Ernie Hrynuik and all those who shared in Stan's life shared in the service as honourary pallbearers.
